Exploring the Majestic Sand Dunes of Mui Ne with Family: A Thrilling Adventure

Did you know Vietnam has vast sand dunes like this? They're located in Mui Ne, just about a two-hour drive from Ho Chi Minh City.
Moreover, you can ride jeeps across these dunes. As someone who loves jet skiing, I found this to be a must-visit destination, so my family and I went there in early 2022.

Journey to Mui Ne

Mui Ne is a four-hour drive from Ho Chi Minh City (as of 2022), but thanks to a new highway that opened in 2023, it now takes only two hours.
With our daughter being just an infant at the time, we opted for a private tour. A spacious car with air conditioning picked us up around 6 AM from our home in Ho Chi Minh City. The tour guide kept us engaged with brief descriptions of our surroundings, making the four-hour trip enjoyable. Our daughter, who loves car rides, was content throughout the journey. We took a short break at a parking area that was surprisingly clean and well-equipped, much like those in Japan, and offered a variety of local snacks and souvenirs.

Hotel Stay

Our first day in Mui Ne was spent relaxing at a resort hotel. Our room was a charming little bungalow by the sea, each designed to offer ocean views.

Activities

White Sand Dunes

Since travel consumed most of the first and third days, we packed all activities into the second day, starting with the White Sand Dunes. The expansive, beautiful white dunes allowed us to explore in a jeep. Despite having a ten-month-old, we encountered no issues renting a jeep.
The experience was thrilling, similar to riding waves on a jet ski. Our daughter, securely fastened to me in a baby carrier, enjoyed the ride without any discomfort.
The white dunes were not only exciting but also perfect for taking beautiful photos.

Lunch

For lunch, we visited a seafood restaurant recommended by our guide, where every dish was delicious, especially the seafood croquette.

Red Sand Dunes

Next, we headed to the Red Sand Dunes. Though not as vast as the white dunes, the red sands offered a mystical landscape. Climbing to the top with a baby in tow was challenging but rewarding, even if I was too exhausted to fully appreciate the view.

Fairy Stream

One of the most enchanting parts of our Mui Ne adventure was the visit to Fairy Stream, a hidden gem that feels like stepping into another world. Unlike anything we'd expected, this shallow water path, framed by dramatic sand dunes on one side and lush greenery on the other, offered us a serene escape from the buzz of travel.
Walking barefoot in the cool, gently flowing water was a delightful respite from the heat. The stream's bed, a mix of soft sand and smooth pebbles, massaged our feet as we wandered through this natural wonder.

What made Fairy Stream truly stand out was its simplicity and natural beauty. Along the banks, local vendors sold charming hats and refreshing ice creams, adding a touch of local flavor to our exploration. We indulged in cold, fresh juices, which were a perfect complement to the warm air and the cool water at our feet.

Dinner and Conclusion

We ended our tour with dinner at a seaside restaurant, enjoying the beautiful sunset. The Vietnamese people's love for children allowed us and our daughter to enjoy our meal peacefully.

After dinner, we headed back to our accommodation, where an outdoor shower under the stars offered a refreshing end to our day.
The private tour made our journey stress-free and enjoyable, except for the exhausting trek through the dunes. It was a memorable trip, thanks to our guide's excellent service.
Our visit to the White Sand Dunes of Mui Ne was more than just an item checked off our travel bucket list; it was an unforgettable adventure that brought us closer as a family. It reminded us of the joy of exploring new places together, of the thrill of trying new things, and of the beauty that lies in the natural world around us.
